Simba Technologies’ UBC Scholarship in Computer Science Awarded

Vancouver, BC - August 11, 2010 - Simba Technologies Inc., industry’s choice for standards-based relational and multi-dimensional data connectivity, announced today that Joyce Cheung, a combined business and computer science major at the University of British Columbia, has been awarded the Simba Technologies Award in Computer Science.  Ms. Cheung receives a cash award of $350 to help with tuition, books or living expenses.  Simba’s UBC scholarship is awarded annually and is funded by the company’s endowment to the University.

“We are excited to announce Joyce as UBC’s Simba Technologies Scholarship recipient,” said Suzanne Hoffman, Simba’s Vice President of Sales.  “Joyce’s achievements reflect both the academic excellence and the dedication to community service on which the award is based.  At Simba, we try to provide stepping-stones to success for BC students and we feel that cost of education should be the least of students’ worries.  We see a great future in supporting BC students, as many of our talented staff are BC educated as well.”

“Joyce has demonstrated outstanding community service in our department,” said Dr. Raymond Ng, Acting Head, Department of Computer Science at UBC.  “She has been a very active member of our FoWCS (Focus on Women in Computer Science committee), and volunteered for Girlsmarts, a computer science workshop for grade six girls.”
