"Simba’s data connectivity products are built for serious, intensive, commercial application – offering incredible value. When we wished to add standards-based data interfaces to our high-performance PDI database, only Simba could deliver the performance conscious MDX and SQL capabilities we sought. Simba understands data and really is the data connectivity expert."

SimbaEngine ODBC SDK
- ODBC driver and SQL Engine for highperformance database
- Ability to pass down key optimizations and functions to maintain database’s specialized performance
SimbaEngine ODBC SDK is the easiest and quickest way to enable ODBC, JDBC, OLE DB and ADO.NET data access to both SQL and non-SQL data sources. Using the SDK, users are able to build an ODBC driver, JDBC driver, OLE DB driver and ADO.NET provider for their application or database in as little as five days. SimbaEngine ODBC SDK includes all standards-based data interfaces and Simba’s SQL Engine in one package at no extra cost. Learn more at www.simba.com/odbc-sdk.htm.
Simba Technologies Inc. is the recognized world leader in standards-based data access products and solutions. Panoratio (www.panoratio.com) provides revolutionary in-memory database technology and an analytical platform that is specifically suited for high performance analysis on complex mass data. Panoratio’s products help its customers from a variety of industries to better tap into their Business Intelligence (BI) tools, providing them with the means to perform detailed analysis on multiple data sources. Its solutions include PDIConfigurator, PDI-Server and PDI-Explorer.
Panoratio had previously chosen Simba to provide the standards-based OLAP interface and MDX query language support for its PDI-Server product, enabling access to data from ODBO clients and XMLA web clients like Microsoft Excel, IBM Cognos PowerPlay and SAP Business Objects Voyager. When Panoratio planned to add SQL support to its PDI-Server product and offer an ODBC interface to its customers, it again chose Simba to provide the data connectivity technology.
Adding SQL capability to Panoratio’s PDI-Server posed a special challenge. Panoratio’s products are designed to handle extremely large datasets from multiple data sources. Panoratio’s PDIServer administers its PDI-Database, which consists of a set of linked PDIs (Portable Database Images). Panoratio’s database is highly optimized to handle such large datasets, including specialized optimizations for joins, aggregations and filters. Special consideration was needed to ensure database performance was maintained.
Simba worked closely with Panoratio using Simba’s SimbaEngine ODBC SDK to provide the components needed to add a SQL Engine and an ODBC interface to Panoratio’s database. SimbaEngine ODBC SDK includes many special features, including pass down processing for table filters, joins and aggregations, as well as Simba’s unique Collaborative Query Execution feature that allows Panoratio’s database to execute the parts of the query for which it is designed and dynamically leave the rest of the query to be executed by Simba’s SQL Engine.
By not redundantly executing the same parts of queries and passing down filters, aggregations and joins, Panoratio’s database is able to maintain its high performance. Without Simba’s Collaborative Query Execution and pass down processing features, ODBC queries could have taken hours to retrieve a calculated value.
Once completed, Panoratio’s new ODBC driver and SQL Engine for its PDI-Server product fully met its connectivity and performance objectives. The ODBC interface and SQL capability provide Panoratio’s customers with robust, standards-based data access from any ODBC-based client without any compromise on Panoratio’s renowned database performance.
